How do they apply to yoga practice in the modern world?

Uddiyana (to rise up) Bandha is one of three primary locks utilized in Hatha Yoga practices.
UB, being focused between the navel and diaphragm, effects core stability and stamina. It provides deep massage and attunement to the health and function of abdominal organs. Most importantly, when practiced with pranayama, this bandha facilitates a sense of peace and calmness in the mind and senses that allows an effortless natural meditative awareness to emerge.



In this one day workshop we will:

  • Draw from the Yoga Sutras and Hatha Yoga scriptures to address the claims regarding Uddiyana Bandha (UB) for today’s practitioner;
  • Apply UB and its precursors to active asana;
  • Learn basic practical anatomy of UB;
  • Apply UB to restorative asana and pranayama practice.
