Yoga Northwest News
We are finally in our new studio!! And it feels like home!! The quiet and peaceful setting with the radiant heated floor and the big view of green trees is more inviting than I ever imagined.
In April I had the great fortune to study intimately with Geeta Iyengar from India at the Yasodhara Ashram in Kootenay Bay, Canada. Geeta is Yoga Master B.K.S. Iyengar’s daughter. She now passes on the brilliant teaching of her father, who will be 90 years old in December. We were a "small" group of 85 teachers and students from the US and Canada who were lucky to get into the 6 day seminar that filled to capacity in just a few days. Geeta shared fresh insights into the Yoga poses, breath and philosophy with a generous warm, and joyous spirit. It was very inspiring, midst snow-capped mountains!
Our Ski to Sea team, “NW Yogis on the Run,” will race down the mountain again this year. We are all Yoga Northwest students and teachers ready to fly down the mountain with our Yoga muscles and breath. Last year our team finished 165th out of 400+ teams. William Prell and Paul Wood finished 95th in their canoe leg. And Ingela Abbott finished106th with her cross country skis. Not bad for old Yoga folks!! So look for team number 287 and cheer us on!!
This summer I’m going back home to Sweden for a month with my 2 children to spend time with my family, eat pickled herrings, dance around the midsummer pole, and savor the midsummer sun. While I'm gone my YNW staff will cover my classes.
On September 6-7 Yoga Northwest will host our second Iyengar Yoga Assessment venue, where 12 candidates from around the country will be tested for the first stage of the Iyengar Yoga certification (there are over 10 stages!!). The Iyengar certification is the most challenging Yoga certification in the world and promotes high quality Yoga teachers that pass on the art of Yoga effectively and safely with precision, depth, and care.
Let us know if you are available as “mock” students at this event during Saturday and Sunday mornings. We will need 6-8 students in 6 different classes, each class 2-hours long. Everybody who is an Iyengar Yoga student, without injury, and who is stable and comfortable in the standing poses and shoulder balance is welcome. We are very grateful for your help and support in the process. This fall we will combine our late summer session and the fall session into one 14-week session starting September 8 to help simplify the registration process and streamline our office management.
To make the “double registration” inviting to you all, we are offering $10 off and a drawing of a free 10 week winter session (1x week) at Yoga Northwest to everybody who pays for the fall session before August 15th (by cash or check!).
And our Yoga Boutique is now featuring thin and light travel mats so you can take your Yoga mat and dog poses with you on your summer adventures. We also have new Yoga shorts and capris and new T’s and tanks that will keep you “cool” this summer with “Sthira Sukham Asanam.”
Namaste,
